This should be an interesting project. You may well find different norms for first generation immigrant families, second generation, families with strong literacy skills, families from more rural backgrounds. It should be interesting research.
Some names to look for: Concha Delgago Gaitin (she has books and articles), Louis Moll, or Angela Venezuela -- all have done interesting work (and the book Con Respeto that is one of our choices for the Literature Circles is very good).
